Lou Ferrigno AKA The Incredible Hulk is a former Mr. America and 2-time IFBB Mr. Universe. Ferrigno has starred in television and in movies, beginning with, above all else, The Incredible Hulk which aired on CBS from 1978-1983. Lou was also featured, opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger, in the bodybuilding classic documentary of 1975 “Pumping Iron,” that focused on the rivalry between Ferrigno and Schwarzenegger.
Ferrigno was born in Brooklyn, New York and just after he was born, Ferrigno says he suffered a series of ear infections that caused him to lose between 75% to 80% of his hearing. Ferrigno overcame this disability with the use of hearing-aids and the ability to read lips. He attributes his enormous success in life to his hearing loss because it meant he had to overcome adversity. Today he is a motivational coach.
Ferrigno began weight training at age 13 and upon graduating from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1969 he began his professional bodybuilding career. It didn't take long before he brought in his first major titles, IFBB Mr. America in 1973 and then IFBB Mr. Universe in the same year.
Ferrigno would go on to place strongly in the 1974 Mr. Olympia, coming in 2nd to Arnold Schwarzenegger. The following year Ferrigno placed 3rd. But these finishes alone were not enough to financially support Ferrigno. And he had to take a job as a sheet-metal worker at a factory in Brooklyn, earning $10 an hour. He never really liked the dangerous work, and left after three years when one of his co-workers accidentally chopped off their hand.
Ferrigno was later cast with his old co-star Bill Bixby in the 1977 TV movie “The Incredible Hulk.”
Ferrigno competed in three more competitions in the early 1990s. His last competition was the Masters Olympia in 1994 in which he placed second. Thereafter, Ferrigno retired from competitive bodybuilding.
Today Ferrigno continues to make appearances in movies, TV and commercials. He had a cameo spot in the 2003 movie “Hulk” in which he played a security guard. He also made a cameo appearance in the 2008 rendition of the Hulk series in the movie “The Incredible Hulk,” and was the voice of the Hulk.
Ferrigno lives with his wife of 30 years, Carla Green Ferrigno and together they have three children, and apart from his other ventures, he works as a fitness trainer.
In 2012, Lou Ferrigno appeared on the hit television show, Celebrity Apprentice, with Donald Trump.
Week 5 was Lou Ferrigno's first time as project manager. The team's created a viral video for O-Cedar's new Pro-Mist mop. Paul Sr. came up with the catchphrase, "I'm Going to Mop the Floor with You." The video featured Lou Ferrigno and also had Lou dancing with the mop.
Unanimous won under the leadership of Lou Ferrigno because the sponsor thought the men's team had a much stronger punchline.
The team's were given the task of creating a 10 minute sponsorship presentation and another 10 minute Q&A session for the Buick Verano. The teams made their presentations before a live audience and online viewers.
Adam Carolla was the project manager for Unanimous. The men's presentation revolved around comedy, with Adam Carolla and Michael Andretti conversing about the car. Penn Jillette climbed inside the trunk of the Verano to demonstrate how much room it had. But the comedic approach went against what General Motors / Buick wanted, and thus unanimous lost.
Lou Ferrigno was criticized by the rest of his team for being a weak link. However, it was Carolla's hard-headed mentality that ended up costing the team hte victory. Adam Carolla was eventually fired for his disregard for the sponsor's whishes. Later, Michael Andretti was brought before the board and Trump pointed out that Andretti failed to establish a stronger stage presence, which would have been a major selling point for the Buick Verano as well as Unanimous. Michael Andretti was fired also.
And Adam Carolla was fired. The teams were presented with a challenge that required they create two themed living window displays. The displays were for Ivanka Trumps clothing line. For this competition, Ivanka would be one of the judges, including a representative manager from Lord & Taylor.
With back to back wins in the first two competitions, Unanimous witnessed its first loss to Team Forte. Unanimous failed to efficiently target the demographics. And subsequently lost to team Forte who had a stronge emphasis on a living-window theme and more central focus on the company's target demographics.
After his failed attempt as project manager, George Takei was sent packing.
In week 2 the teams were tasked with creating a 12-15 minute show for Medieval Times. The show was performed in front of a live audience in New Jersey. In this challenge, Lou Ferrigno played a leading roll, opposite his opponent which was Paul. The men of Unanimous focused on the strengths of each of its members, with Clay Aiken singing, and Dee Snider was the princess in drag. In all the men recieved 558 votes from audience members while Forte lost with 363 votes. Victoria Gotti got the boot from the Donald.
In week 1 the teams (Unanimous: [men]; and Forte [women])were tasked with selling sandwhiches for as much money as possible.
Paul Teutul, Sr of the television show American Chopper was elected to be Unanimous's project manager for their first task. The team won, because Paul had an unnamed source who provided $305,000.
